2013 YARP Winners!

Congratulations to this year’s winners!  2,078 South Dakota teens voted for their favorite book over the last 5 months and have decided their favorite books are:

 High School:

Winner: Divergent by Veronica Roth

Runner Up: Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Mayberry

 Middle School:

Winner: Girl, Stolen by April Henry

Runner Up: Matched by Ali Condie

The new list will be selected this June by the YARP Committee and posted to our website at http://library.sd.gov/LIB/YAS/yarp/index.aspx shortly thereafter.  So keep an eye out for a new list of exciting teen reads!  

Happy School Libraries Month!

Did you know that April, the month of spring showers, is also School Libraries Month? 

 
It is the mission of the school library to:

1. provide all learners a collaborative program for learning and teaching

2. provide all learners a place for both a physical and a virtual learning environment

3. provide all learners access to a highly qualified professional for leadership in creating, promoting, and sustaining the program and place

Since 1989, each year the Young Adult Reading Program (YARP) Teen Reads Committee of the South Dakota Library Association publishes a list of books to promote quality literature and to help South Dakota teachers and librarians in selecting and promoting books for adolescents. The books are selected from among the many young adult and adult books that have received positive reviews by national reviewing periodicals. To qualify to vote, teens read books from the list and give it a star rating of 1 to 4, 4 being best. Teenagers may vote for as many books as they would like on a scale basis. One winner is selected from the Middle School List and another winner from the High School list.  See list below.
